If you are reading this, then you are probably considering the possibility that your son or daughter may become an ‘Edger’ next summer. I would like to introduce you to Pioneers, and more specifically, to the Edge programme that your son or daughter may be part of in the summer.

Action Partners merged with Pioneers in 2005. Pioneers was founded in 1979 with the purpose of sending people, passionate about God and His mission, overseas to plant churches in countries where the church is non-existent or not able to reproduce itself. To date, Pioneers has grown to an international movement with sending bases in Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana, Europe, USA and the UK. Pioneers has nearly 1,950 personnel on the field in 92 countries.

The Edge is the short-term division of Pioneers, specifically designed to give young adults a 4-6 week exposure to life on the field. Our hope is that Edgers will grow in their passion for God, view of the world, and understanding of themselves as they learn and serve.

As part of the UK mobilisation team, we communicate regularly with the teams overseas, process applications, mentor young adults through support- and fundraising, coordinate travel schedules, purchase travel insurance, prepare Edgers for their summer abroad and pray for them as they go. After completing an orientation programme, each Edge team is received by long-term workers who oversee their field internship for 6-7 weeks. Each team then returns to the UK for a two-day debrief, which completes their summer experience.

Pioneers strongly believe in the participation of the local church and value interaction with the parents of our short-termers.
