Homeschooling Helper Needed in South Asia

Duration
Mid-Term

Want to support a family in a mountainous region of South Asia through helping homeschool their kids?

A family in South Asia is looking for someone to spend a few hours a day, 5 days a week, with their 3 children (ages 6, 7, and 10) helping them through their homeschool curriculum. This will free the parents for more effective language learning and local ministry, and will help the entire team minister more effectively in their area. The homeschool helper would be considered a full-fledged member of the ministry team, participating in worship times and accountability. Other ministry opportunities will arise and could be pursued in addition to helping with the children.

The family are open to a male or female. Accommodation is available with an existing team member (or separately) if the candidate is female. If the candidate is male, the team will assist him in finding accommodation.  The homeschool helper is needed for any length of time between now and Autumn of 2020. No teaching experience is strictly necessary.

The team is currently made up of 3 young families and a single woman.

If you can see yourself giving a year or so to this type of ministry, we’d love to hear from you!  Get in touch with our mission mentors today!

Dates: 1 June – 10 August
Cost: £1,850 + Flights

Imagine you have grown up Muslim and heard that Jesus was a prophet, but wanted to learn more about what he taught. You lived in a small city with no more than 400 Christians, but they never spoke anything to you about him. How are you to know the truth about the Messiah without any witness?

We thank God that He pursues us and reveals Himself despite the blindness. Jesus is showing Himself in the form of visions and dreams. Many of these dreams and visions often raise more questions and require further clarification.

For those desiring to ask these questions, there are many societal pressures that prevent them seeking these answers. Therefore, relationships of trust and respect are essential to sharing truth. It is a good thing that Arabs are so hospitable and love building friendships with foreigners.

Joining our team for the summer, you have the opportunity to invest deeply in the lives of local children, winning over their hearts and their families. Through daily interactions you have the opportunity to teach love, grace, forgiveness, and respect, as well as answer questions about what we believe. Come and let the light of Christ shine in a city that needs witnesses.

Field Activities

  • Language and culture study
  • Sightseeing at Historic and Biblical landmarks
  • Relational evangelism
  • Home visits
  • Working a Children’s Camp

Dates: 1 June – 12 July
Cost: £1,500 + Flights

What does a Ghana mission trip look like?

Ghana is a peaceful country. It is an oasis of peace and prosperity in the midst of chaos in other parts of Africa. Yet the enemy attempts daily to overturn this.

We are not perturbed by this evil. The Lord will build His church here.

We are being faithful in sharing the gospel. We do this by house-to-house evangelism and follow-up using discipleship Bible tools, children’s ministry, teaching (English, math, science and computer classes), soccer ministry, and village church activities to strengthen small (5-10) ministry groups and churches.

Field Activities (subject to change)

  • Teaching English, science, math and computer science
  • Visiting schools, engaging with students through song, drama and stories
  • Playing soccer with children
  • Medical ministry
  • House to house evangelism
  • Children’s ministry

Summer Trip: Horn Team

Dates: 1 June – 10 August
Cost: £2,300 + Flights

Islam holds deep roots among this proud people.

There are nearly 15 million people in east Africa, yet not a single mature church. But we trust God is moving and preparing for a great harvest. Having experienced war for over 20 years, these people are desperate for peace. Christ is the Prince of Peace who brings light and life into dark places. Yet how will they ever know unless someone goes and shares this great news?

Your focus will be teaching intermediate/advanced English to those who are in the process of moving to America or another western country.

From relationships formed within the school and in the neighborhood, you will have many opportunities to share about your own life and faith. This may be over a cup of tea, a game of chess, a meal of camel meat and pasta, a pick-up game of soccer, getting henna or simply relaxing together in the living room. Previous Edgers have been amazed to find that they were the first ever to share the love of Christ with a local friend.

We are praying that you may help us find people whom the Spirit is already working in towards faith. The long-term team can then follow up and continue your work long after you leave.

While the majority of your stay will be in an urban environment, you may also take side trips into the rural areas to visit other work being done. Our goal is to open your eyes to the many opportunities and possibilities for long-term work in the area.

You will also spend time learning some language and more about the culture.

Mission Trip Activities (subject to change)

  • Language and cultural study
  • Prayer-walking
  • Teaching English
  • Intentional relationship building in any way possible

Help Tackle HIV/AIDS in West Africa

Join a team who have established a charity that takes a unique church-centred approach to the HIV pandemic; integrating prevention, care and support and attitude change activities.

We believe that the HIV/AIDS pandemic is more than a medical emergency; it is also a spiritual and moral crisis. Indeed the spiritual and moral issues go deeper than the medical ones in both developed and developing nations. Thus we have constructed a response that tackles all three areas. In our charity, medical personnel and theologians work together to transform lives through our three principles: grace, openness and love.

We work through local churches of any denomination. They are rooted in their communities and retain respect, a potent combination in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The process begins with the minister and leaders; we only go into churches with their active support. Then we address the entire congregation during a service, giving basic information on the disease and preaching the gospel and challenging people.

That challenge begins with HIV testing on the church premises for all who are interested. Two options are offered; standard confidential testing or openness – sharing your results with other people in the church who have also chosen to be open.

All who choose the second option make three commitments, to:

  • Belong to Christ in the gospel
  • Be open about their HIV status, whether positive or negative
  • Meet together regularly in small groups to support and encourage each other.

If you are interested in challenging and educating the local church about a Biblical response to HIV/AIDS, we’d love to put you in touch with this team. Get in touch with our office team today!

Join a Pioneers field team who are working to conserve threatened areas and educate West Africans about Creation Care.

Eden Creation Care Initiative (EDEN) is a faith-based, non-profit, conservation organisation closely linked to Pioneers field workers that helps communities protect areas important for their biodiversity, through educational programmes and scientific research. They are currently running two conservation projects:

Rennajj Fish Farm is a comparatively small area of well demarcated privately owned land, covering 80 hectares. It is on the fringes of the Jos metropolis, and suburban development is currently proceeding close to about half of the farm perimeter. The most significant habitat there is wetland. It regularly holds numerous species of herons and waders, whilst gulls, terns and Ospreys are occasional visitors. Appropriate management and protection of the area could potentially increase species diversity considerably.

Mushere Forest (Dulu area of Kadim in Mushereland) has a total area of 40-50 square kilometers. The aim of this project is to provide effective protection for one of Northern Nigeria’s most severely threatened habitats: forest. The area has been selected because damage to the forest is less severe than in many other areas, and difficulty of access makes protection more feasible than elsewhere.

The team are looking for a self-starting, enthusiastic teammate to help run these programmes on a mid- to long-term basis. No professional qualifications are necessary; just a willingness to learn, a heart to serve and a love for God’s natural world.

Sound like you? Get in touch with our office team to find out more.
