This city is a blend of unreached peoples, languages, and beliefs impacting all parts of life.

In a single neighborhood you will often hear bells from the Hindu temple, smell incense from Buddhist and Taoist worshippers, and hear the Muslim call to prayer.

This location is a beautiful, equatorial tropical island.

The area is in the suburbs, with both a large outdoor market and a large superstore within 10 minutes. You will be a 45-minute flight from the capital. There’s an international airport on the island, along with several malls and other modern conveniences.

Yet, below the surface are many complexities; the world’s three largest non-Christian religions all live on top of each other and coexist in everyday life.

There is a wide array of social classes as well, ranging from:

-migrant workers from nearby countries

-local Muslims who speak little to no English

-Hindus who speak mostly the local language and also English

-very wealthy East Asian Tibetans and Buddhist business people/property owners.

There is a lot of seafood here, the climate is hot and humid year-round (33 degrees Celsius every day), and rain is often on the forecast.

Our island is considered a top-ten foodie destination in the world!

Mission Trip Activities (subject to change)

  • Prayerwalking. This is a regular part of our weekly routine. You will prayer walk different parts of the city at least two or three times a week.
  • Going out 2×2. You will learn the way that Jesus sent out His disciples in Luke 9, 10, and Matthew 10 and then go out 2×2 to practice these things several times a week.
  • Disciple making training. We will walk through the biblical principles of disciple making together as a team and with other expats and put them into practice together.

What does a southeast asia mission trip look like?

This trip will give you a wide variety of experiences. You’ll live in a creative access country and see how teams are using both a non-profit organization and also a business to gain access to four unreached people groups.

During the first part of your journey, you’ll be able to experience language learning and working with a non-profit organization focused on water projects and helping people with disabilities.

The second part and the bulk of your journey will take you to a beautiful remote island where farming and mining are the largest industries. Many people here drive cars, but horse-drawn carriages are still a viable and frequently used mode of transportation. Most homes have televisions, but our roads are often congested by water buffalo, horses, goats, or cows. Just about everyone has a cell phone and a Facebook account, but the electricity routinely goes off throughout the day. The religious ceremonies here usually include both an Islamic leader and a witch-doctor. This is an island of contrasts!

On this part of the trip, you’ll have the opportunity to live with the locals, experience what their lives are like, and enjoy a variety of adventure activities like: surfing, spearfishing, rock climbing, and caving. You’ll also learn the long-term approach we are using to share the good news and have opportunities to use what you learn every day.

Are you ready for an adventure? Visit shemahtours.com for more details.

South East Asia Trip Activities (subject to change)

  • Participate in an adventure tour which will get you into villages and have you surfing, climbing, trekking, and caving
  • Learn the long-term strategies for sharing and implement what you learn every day
  • Establish relationships with the people and pray for them

What does a Southeast Asia mission trip look like?

God is already working in the hearts of those living in “the ends of the earth” and are still isolated from hearing the Good News.

They are open to talking about Jesus but don’t have contact with any of His followers that can share the Gospel.

Come prayerfully and boldly seek to see the Good News reach the people of “ the ends of the earth.”

You will work with six people groups that are either unreached or unengaged with the Gospel. They are steeped in Islamic tradition and heavily influenced by strongholds of animism.

We know His promise is that people from every tribe and tongue and nation will worship before His throne. We desire to be His instruments in these people groups believing.

Through excursions into remote, underdeveloped communities, you will have the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful places on earth that very few people have ever been to before. Even more importantly, you will immerse yourself in beautiful cultures to love and serve these people in practical ways.

Come be a part of what the Holy Spirit is doing to spread the Good News.

Southeast Asia Trip Activities (subject to change)

  • See what it takes to start a gospel movement among an unreached Muslim group
  • Prayer walk through communities
  • Study language in a language school
  • Learn culture through home stays with local families
  • Trekking, snorkeling and rock climbing
  • Survey trips into unengaged communities, seeking new relationships
  • Community development (from agriculture to kids camps to clinics)
  • Help start a partnership with underprivileged women making eco-friendly jewelry

* Destination is subject to visa approval through this country’s embassy.

Are you a good fit for the Highlands Team? Are you passionate about God’s name being worshipped and his kingdom filling the forgotten ends of the earth? Will you accept the privilege of introducing Jesus to a people who have never before had the chance to hear his good news? Are you committed to living and serving together as a community, modelling a “two by two” Luke 10 kind of ministry while living an Acts 2 “all-in” kind of fellowship? Are you ready to adopt a simpler, slower lifestyle in a small town? Do you want to make a home in a place that is rich with beauty both in landscape and in culture? Do you have a spirit of adventure? A passion for social and environmental justice? Are you motivated and eager to learn? Do you like a good laugh? If your answer to all this is a resounding YES, let’s talk. 🙂

Our team is looking for teammates who are spiritually mature and growing in a relationship with God. Candidates should be humble, teachable, flexible, motivated, light-hearted, able to live and work in a pioneering environment, have a capacity for hardship, and be passionate about God and his Kingdom. We desire teammates who can contribute meaningfully to our management and consulting company. Our current business focus is promoting eco-tourism and arranging tours around our region with a client base from the international backpacking community. Such skills would include business, finance, administration, public relations, marketing, writing, photography, videography, design, customer service, networking, resource investigation, and a love and interest for people, social justice, conservation, culture, trekking, and camping. There may be opportunities for consulting in English education or agriculture for a candidate with highly developed skills and initiative in these fields.

Be part of an agricultural business focussed on chocolate production and processing.

A new team in rural Oceania is looking for help growing (literally!) their chocolate business. They are looking for a person or multiple people with agricultural experience to help in establishing and managing chocolate fields as they try to increase production. The role could suit a short or long term candidate. The team have specifically requested short term help (up to a year) initially as one of the two families will be away from July 2018 until the end of the year.

The business provides opportunities to build relationships with people at many different levels of society, from rural farming families to government officials, and we hope that as these relationships grow and deepen, they will lead to life-transforming discipleship movements among all unreached peoples in the area.

If you have agricultural experience and are interested in knowing more, we’d love to hear from you.  Get in touch today!

Teachers Needed in Indonesia

The town in which Hillcrest International School is located is the home base for many mission organisations. Hillcrest serves the families of these missionaries and helps them to fulfil the calling the Lord has on their lives by providing quality Christian education for their children. There is also a dorm for students whose parents work in remote villages.

Many of the families who are served by the school are working with remote peoples and make trips back and forth to these tribes. Papua is home to 250 different indigenous people groups and a growing growing number of Muslim people groups who have come from all parts of Indonesia. Some boarding school students have parents working in other parts of Indonesia like in Bali. So serving at HIS allows the Lord’s work to be done in many many people groups who are in real need.

Other information:

The teachers should be fully supported when they come. The school does not provide compensation.

There is housing available on campus for teachers, but some choose to live off campus to be closer to the local community.

HIS is one of only a few remaining schools in SE Asia that are solely faith based. This means that all of our teachers come to us as missionaries, raising their own support. We do not pay stipends, honorariums, or provide housing allowance, travel allowance, or any other type of financial compensation. The teachers who come here do so with the express purpose of serving as missionaries and to provide the educational support for families like those here serving with Pioneers and the other missions listed above.

Teachers coming long term need to learn Indonesian and should plan to spend 6-9 months in language school. Teachers coming for 1 year only usually do not need to go through language school. All classes are taught in English.

Indonesia is now requiring all expatriate teachers to have a minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in order to allow a work visa to be processed.

We have immediate and future openings for …..

Primary School: all ages
Secondary School:

  • Maths
  • English
  • Social Studies
  • IT/Computer

Pioneers has several families serving in Papua who send their children to HIS. This allows them to concentrate on their work of church planting. And we have 2 teachers at the moment – Megan teaches high school maths, english & psychology, and Samantha who teaches Middle school. Joining this team of teachers promises to be an amazing (and sometimes difficult!) experience for anyone who wants to come serve God and other missionaries in this beautiful location!
