Grace and Light was set up in 2003 by Pioneers UK missionary, Mark Hopkins. The project focuses on educating Nigerian people on the causes, prevention, and treatment of HIV/AIDs, and it does so by working through the local church.
Through Grace and Light, church members are educated on the causes of HIV and how to help prevent its spread. This teaching is encompassed by a Christian understanding of life, love, and morality, and as such also serves as a bridge to evangelism for local congregations. Congregants are also offered HIV testing free-of-charge. Those who are found to be HIV positive are offered pastoral counselling and given access to medical treatment where possible.
The Grace and Light project currently operates across 13 Nigerian states and employs 11 full-time members of staff. In 2015 alone, Grace and Light visited 64 churches and oversaw the testing of over 6,534 people. Cumulatively, over 155,000 people have been tested between the project’s launch in 2003 and November 2016.
