An invitation for software developers & professionals to invest in the peoples of Eastern Europe.

With experience in secure payment platforms, a Pioneers team member has established a software development company which currently employs twenty locals. An open door now exists for field workers to come work part-time in management roles, or in teaching Western culture to facilitate helpful client relationships (clients are currently predominantly located in Australia, the UK, and the US).

The founder longs to create a business culture with impact far beyond the daily grind of work hours. Many of the country’s young, talented IT professionals end up leaving home to work in the West. They have a hunger and a longing for more – more that can only be found in Jesus. Apart from investing in relationships with local co-workers, you could use this door to reach into universities, mobilise local believers, locate unreached people groups in the city, and trust God for a church planting movement.

City Snapshot: The second largest city in the country and a growing hub for tech companies, young professionals, and IT specialists. Nearly 1.5 million people, with half of the population under 20 years of age. Over seventeen national universities and many more technical and private universities. Considered a cultural centre, as it hosts numerous music and film festivals yearly and is home to theatres and art galleries, as well as numerous authors.

UPG Snapshot: While the country has a growing body of evangelicals, much of the population remains orthodox. There are 26 UPGS in the country, including Tatar, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, Roma, and more.  Specifically in this city, there are over 8,000 Jews yet to know the hope of their Messiah.

Potential Roles to Fill

  • Client Account Manager
  • Software Developer
  • Project Manager
  • Teaching English language and culture, etc.

Useful Skill-sets

  • Experience in start-ups
  • Team-builders
  • Culture & Language Professionals
  • Knowledge of the following: JavaScript, NodeJS, Angular, ReactNative, and more.

Positions are paid, whether part-time or full-time, according to the cost of living for locals in the city. Foreigners may want / need to raise supplemental support.

Dates: 29 May – 15 August

Cost: TBD

Join our summer team in a large city in the North of England.

This city boasts of having up to 200 languages spoken, making it one of the most linguistically diverse cities in Western Europe.

Its most widely spoken non-English language remains Urdu. But other languages are catching up. Arabic, Cantonese, Polish, Bengali and Somali are all widely spoken but there are dozens of others in everyday use- for instance, Yoruba, Igbo, Lingala, and Pashto.

It’s is also one of the most popular student cities in the world – for both international students and those in the UK. But what makes this city such a great place for students? Well, one reason would be its multi-cultural presence.

More than 80,000 students every year choose this city for their studies. With a large proportion of international students making up that number, you’ll have many opportunities to befriend people from every nation.

This city is one of the most exciting places to visit in the UK. Everybody is warmly welcomed and this offers an open door to share the Good News with people who never heard before.

You will come and initiate relationships with international students, asylum seekers and other immigrants. It is a place of opportunity where you can get involved in the lives of people who come from diverse religious and social backgrounds.

Field Activities

(subject to change)

  • Conversational English groups at university
  • Teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees
  • Leading Bible studies in homes
  • Using sports, music and creative arts to build relationships with students
  • Prayer walking
  • Hiking

We are looking for a homeschool teacher (either 2 single women or a married couple) for the 2019-2020 school year. One child on our team is in need of home education due to his mild special needs. Someone joining our team in this capacity would be an answer to prayer as it would enable the parents to continue in language study and ministry in the community. A curriculum is in place, but can be adjusted as needed. Although an interest in teaching or early education is preferred, we are looking for someone…

  • with a big heart to engage with our son and help inspire him towards a love of God, others, and learning
  • patient with children and a fun-loving personality
  • with the heart of a learner

This would also be an invaluable opportunity to learn language, engage in the local culture, and travel. We want to walk alongside you in this journey as you see and experience God in new ways by living and serving overseas. If you cannot commit to a full 9 month academic year, we would still love to have a conversation with you.

Dates: 1 June – 16 July

There are thousands of people here yearning for substantial truth, and we have an opportunity to share the real truth, love, and hope with them.  Religion is a very important part of life here.  As a result, faith is a natural topic of conversation, and we have opportunities to sow those seeds.

Arabs are hospitable people who are greatly honored by visitors.  Many Arabs are interested in meeting English speakers and practicing their English.  This is a politically stable area.

You will be able to live here comfortably regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, single or married.

This summer you can help us make new connections with Muslims who are seeking by teaching English.  Come be a light to Muslims in this spiritually dark desert town and boldly share why Jesus is your hope.

Field Activities

(subject to change)

  • Study Arabic language
  • Teach English to 8 – 18 year olds during the week
  • Sight see, make friends, and experience culture in the evenings & weekends
  • Experience ministry in an unreached Islamic culture

Imagine you have grown up Muslim and heard that Jesus was a prophet, but wanted to learn more about what he taught. You lived in a small city with no more than 400 Christians, but they never spoke anything to you about him. How are you to know the truth about the Messiah without any witness?

We thank God that He pursues us and reveals Himself despite the blindness. Jesus is showing Himself in the form of visions and dreams. Many of these dreams and visions often raise more questions and require further clarification.

For those desiring to ask these questions, there are many societal pressures that prevent them seeking these answers. Therefore, relationships of trust and respect are essential to sharing truth. It is a good thing that Arabs are so hospitable and love building friendships with foreigners.

Joining our team for the summer, you have the opportunity to invest deeply in the lives of local children, winning over their hearts and their families. Through daily interactions you have the opportunity to teach love, grace, forgiveness, and respect, as well as answer questions about what we believe. Come and let the light of Christ shine in a city that needs witnesses.

Field Activities

  • Language and culture study
  • Sight Seeing Historic and Biblical landmarks
  • Relational evangelism
  • Home visits
  • Working a Children’s Camp
  • Teaching English

This trip will give you a wide variety of experiences. You’ll live in a creative access country and see how teams are using both a non-profit organization and also a business to gain access to four unreached people groups.

During the first part of your journey, you’ll be able to experience language learning and working with a non-profit organization focused on water projects and help for people with disabilities.

The second part and the bulk of your journey will take you to a beautiful remote island where farming and mining are the largest industries. Many people here drive cars, but horse drawn carriages are still a viable and frequently used mode of transportation. Most homes have televisions, but our roads are often congested by water buffalo, horses, goats, or cows. Just about everyone has a cell phone and a Facebook account, but the electricity routinely goes off throughout the day. The religious ceremonies here usually include both an Islamic leader and a witch-doctor. This is an island of contrasts!

On this part of the trip, you’ll have the opportunity to live with the locals, experience what their lives are like, and enjoy a variety of adventure activities like: surfing, spearfishing, rock climbing, and caving. You’ll also learn the long term approach we are using to share the good news and have opportunities to use what you learn everyday.

Are you ready for an adventure?
Visit shemahtours.com for more details.

Field Activities

(subject to change)

  • Learn some conversational language and be using it right away
  • Experience front-line ministry in an Islamic and Hindu environment
  • Join a non-profit organization who serves the community through water projects and aid for those with disabilities
  • Participate in an adventure tour which will get you into villages and have you surfing, climbing, trekking, and caving
  • Learn the long term strategies for sharing and implement what you learn every day
  • Establish relationships with the people and pray for them

Dates: 1 June – 13 August

Islam holds deep roots among this proud people.

There are nearly fifteen million people, yet not a single mature church.  But we trust God is moving and preparing for a great harvest.  Having experienced war for over 20 years, these people are desperate for peace.  Christ is the Prince of Peace who brings light and life into dark places.  Yet how will they ever know unless someone goes and shares this great news!

Your focus will be teaching intermediate/advanced English to those who are in the process of resettling in America or another western country.

From relationships formed within the school and in the neighborhood, you will have many opportunities to share about your own life and faith.  This may be over a cup of tea, a game of chess, a meal of camel meat & pasta, a pick-up game of soccer,  getting henna or simply relaxing together in the living room.  Previous Edgers have been amazed to find that they were the first persons ever to share the love of Christ with a local.

We are praying that you may help us find people whom the Spirit is already working in towards faith.  The long-term team can then follow up and continue your work long after you leave.

While the majority of your stay will be in an urban environment, side trips will also be taken into the rural areas, visiting other work being done.  Our goal is to open your eyes to the many opportunities and possibilities for long-term work in the area.

Time will also be spent learning some language and more about the culture.

Field Activities:

  • Language and cultural study
  • Prayer walking
  • Teaching English
  • Intentional relationships in any way possible

Calling all Extroverted Cheese-Makers!

Use your love of all things cheesy to help bring the love of Jesus to North Africa.

A team in North Africa is looking for teammates who have an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to try new things in order to bring the love of Jesus to their city. At the moment, they are running a professional skills training centre, and while they’d love to have people join them in this business, they’re also eager to welcome entrepreneurs of all kinds.

The team is located in a coastal city that is a little less conservative than the rest of the country, and is more urban and touristy, so just about any business idea could work. In particular, they’re looking for people to start businesses in:

  • Photography
  • English Teaching
  • Fitness/Health
  • And yes, CHEESE-MAKING!

Any idea is welcome, but more important is the type of person the team is looking for. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, willing to learn two languages, an extroverted, relational, out-of-the-box thinker. They will be interested in influencing and shaping what’s going on in the work, and will be thinking long-term – without an end date in mind.

The opportunities are endless, really! If you think God might be calling you to this type of ministry, let us know! We’d love to talk through the possibilities with you.

Candidates will need to raise financial support to join this ministry.

NB: The opportunities listed on our website are only a small percentage of the available opportunities. To find out about more possibilities, please don’t hesitate to contact our mobilisation team.
