What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

The Washington DC Metro area has a large community of immigrants and refugees from all over the world. Among the students we serve, many have come because their land is torn by war, many have come because of state sponsored genocide, and others from fear of violence. Of the students we serve, 75% are Muslim. With the influx of Afghan refugees in the area, this team will be seeking to serve those individuals as well. Due to language and cultural barriers, immigrants and refugees are often restricted to their homes and families. English classes, though available, are expensive and infrequent. So, much of their community is still back in their home countries, and they have few opportunities to form new friendships.

This team’s goal is to meet the needs of these immigrants holistically through English-learning, community-building, and gospel-sharing. They offer inexpensive classes, childcare, a daily Bible lesson and hospitality events. Adult English classes also provide a platform through which you can share the hope we have in Jesus. In addition, these classes allow those who come to interact with diverse students of similar backgrounds as well as local teachers.

We do not just want to care for individuals, but for the whole family. That’s where you come in. This summer, we hope to form relationships with our students’ children and bring the whole family into our community. We will do this by running a summer programme that provides ESL classes for adults, childcare for preschool kids, and programme activities for youth. Edgers will be putting on the youth summer programme that focuses on art, science, lego building, and drama.

Edgers will be leading the way to forming these familial relationships. They will lead the children in activities during ESL class time, support the team, aid the activity leaders, engage in hospitality events throughout the week and learn to participate in cross-cultural ministry from experienced missionaries.

What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

This city is a blend of unreached peoples, languages and beliefs impacting all parts of life. In a single Southeast Asian neighbourhood, you will often hear bells from the Hindu temple, smell incense from Buddhist and Taoist worshipers, and hear the Muslim call to prayer.

This location is a beautiful, equatorial tropical island. You will be in the suburbs, with both a large outdoor market and a large superstore less than ten minutes away. You will be a 45-minute flight from the capital. The island has an international airport along with several malls and other modern conveniences.

Yet, below the surface are many complexities. Followers of the world’s three largest non-Christian religions live on top of each other and coexist in everyday life. There is a wide array of social classes as well, ranging from:

  • Migrant workers from nearby countries
  • Local Muslims who speak little to no English
  • Hindus who speak mostly the local language and also English
  • Very wealthy East Asian Buddhist business people and property owners

There is a lot of seafood here. The climate is hot and humid year-round (33 degrees Celsius every day) and rain is often on the forecast.

And here’s a bonus: This island is considered one of the top-ten foodie destinations in the world!

2022 Edge Trip Activities

* Subject to change
  • Prayer walking. This is a regular part of the long-term team’s weekly routine. You will prayer walk different parts of the city at least two or three times a week.
  • Going out 2×2. You will learn the way that Jesus sent out His disciples in Luke 9-10 and Matthew 10 and then go out to practice these things several times a week.
  • Disciple-making training. The team will walk through the biblical principles of disciple-making and put them into practice together.

What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

God is already working in the hearts of those living at “the ends of the earth” and still isolated from hearing the Good News. They are open to talking about Jesus but don’t have contact with any of His followers who can share the gospel.

Come prayerfully and boldly seek to see the Good News reach the people of the ends of the earth.

You will work with six people groups that are either unreached or both unreached and unengaged with the gospel. They are steeped in Islamic tradition and heavily influenced by strongholds of animism.

We know God’s promise is that people from every tribe and tongue and nation will worship before His throne. We desire to be His instruments in these people groups believing.

Through excursions into remote, underdeveloped communities, you will have the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful places on earth, places very few people have ever been to before. Even more importantly, you will immerse yourself in beautiful cultures to love and serve these people in practical ways.

Come be a part of what the Holy Spirit is doing to spread the Good News.

2022 Edge Trip Activities

What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

Just 30 years ago, there were only a handful of believers in this country. In the 1990s, most citizens here and in other parts of greater Central Asia had never heard the name of Jesus.

Instead, they experienced 70 years of communism alongside a worldview deeply rooted in shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism. Many are left feeling there is no real hope. Alcoholism is widespread, and far too often the sins of the fathers are repeated in the next generation.

Jesus, however, brings hope, light, truth, life and love.

In the past 30 years, God has done amazing work to build His Church. Yet there are still far too many who have very little understanding of the reality of Who He is.

The people in this country are a relational people. They are hospitable and friendly. They also build trust through relational interaction.

A couple of years ago, the long-term team built a gymnasium. The purpose was to use sports and other activities to establish relationships with young people in order to bring them the transformational freedom of the gospel. Regular activities include basketball training, fitness workouts and English teaching.

You can come and work alongside the local team and help fill the need for more English teachers and sports and fitness trainers.  The harvest is abundantly ready, and the workers are few. Would you be willing to help?

2022 Edge Trip Activities

* Subject to change
  • Basketball and volleyball training
  • English teaching

  • Interaction with local fellowship and an annual church camping trip

What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

A nomadic tribesman stands on the plateau, herding his yaks and living in a tent. He burns yak dung to keep warm. His tent also has a solar panel on the side charging his iPhone X. It might take us days to travel to where he is, but we can reach him and many others by developing software for the devices in their hands.

In unreached contexts all around the world, many people have smartphones. They may not have running water or electricity, but they have a great 4G connection. We now have unprecedented access to the farthest corners of the earth through the internet. How can the Church leverage mobile app development to advance the gospel among the unreached?

Challenges abound. Literacy rates are low, so apps we develop are often accommodated for primarily oral cultures. The languages of the unreached are tricky and in some cases not well-documented. Wifi access is often limited. Yet despite these challenges, we know that God desires all tribes to have access to Jesus. Therefore, we labour to build high-quality, culturally sensitive tools to meaningfully present Jesus to the unreached.

We propose that mobile app development can be a tool for teams on the field to integrate into their church planting strategies. Rather than asking you to lay aside your technical skills, we ask you to use your talents to assist in bringing the gospel to unreached people groups. We can work together to develop solutions to put the gospel in the hands of the most unreached.

We will be taking project ideas from missionaries and developing mobile apps focused on church-planting efforts among unreached people groups. As an Edger, it will take your creativity, your talent in software, product, UI/UX, or web design to cross rivers, mountains and cultural barriers to deliver the good news.

2022 Edge Trip Activities

* Subject to change
  • Learn about the challenges of reaching remote people groups
  • Understand the current state of missions
  • Innovate new tech solutions together
  • Build and develop products that will further church-planting efforts
  • Enter into a community with other Christian technologists
  • Experience the whole product life cycle
  • Develop your skills in software, product, UI/UX, or web design

What would your 2022 mission trip look like?

Islam holds deep roots among these proud people who inhabit the Horn of Africa.  Nearly 15 million in population, yet not a single mature church. Having experienced war for over 20 years, these people are desperate for peace. Christ is the one who brings light and life into dark places. Yet how will they ever know unless someone goes and shares this great news?

Your focus will be teaching intermediate to advanced English to those who are in process to resettle in an English-speaking country. From relationships formed within the school and in the neighbourhood, you will have many opportunities to share about your own life and faith. This may be over a cup of tea, a game of chess, a meal of camel meat and pasta, a pick-up game of soccer, getting henna or simply relaxing together in the living room. While the majority of your stay will be in an urban environment, you will also take side trips to the rural areas to see other ministry efforts. You will also spend time learning language and culture to help you have meaningful spiritual conversations with local people.

2022 Edge Trip Activities

* Subject to change
  • Prayer walking
  • Language and culture study
  • Teaching English
  • Spiritual conversations with locals over tea or henna

The walking ministry is patterned after the model of Jesus sending out the disciples two by two in Mark 6:6b-10 and Luke 10:1-11. The intern’s role is primarily focused on prayer, learning, observation, note taking, and carrying scripture (up to 40-60lbs).

Time between trips is spent debriefing, preparing for future trips, mapping, cataloging notes, planning, correspondence, and administration.

Time spent in the home village involves reading about and discussing missiology and development theory, as well as learning culture and language, and participating in times of team prayer, worship, intercession, and discernment. Expect significant amounts of manual labor for basic life functions.

Note: The holistic nature of our approach provides a range of possible internship focuses tailored to the intern’s specific interests, as well as long-term/career positions. We have experience in hosting university internships and providing documentation for credit.

A team in the heart of the Amazon is looking for 15 new teammates. Could you be one of them?

Currently based in the town of Benjamin Constant, Brazil, this team is working with tribes and villages along the Javari and Amazon Rivers. The team operate out of the larger town along the rivers and make trips to the tribes for evangelisation, planting churches and training indigenous church leaders and missionaries. They primarily use Spanish and Portuguese for the ministry as most people in the area have a good understanding of one or both, with those they disciple as local leaders then training others in their tribal dialects.

In addition to traditional church planters, the team are looking for:

  • Accountants
  • Pilots
  • Mechanics
  • Community health workers
  • Anyone with a practical skillset

Outside the town, which has about 20,000 people, the area is very isolated. Supplies are delivered to the region by barge and occasional small planes. The team travel to the villages primarily by boat, and occasionally by plane.

If this type of work in this type of environment gets you excited, we’d love to talk with you. Get in touch with our mobilisation team today!
